PROPS

The Protection Planning System (PROPS) is a GIS-based system that quantifies the marginal timber supply benefit (m3/ha) of protecting forest stands against defoliation. The system uses forest inventory and spruce budworm monitoring data along with forest management plans to determine the effects of various budworm protection strategies on forest development and sustainability. PROPS permits evaluation of costs, benefits and consequences of forest management, and improves the visualization of the pest impacts.

PROPS was implemented in New Brunswick by the Canadian Forest Service with assistance from Forest Protection Limited, the forest industry, and the New Brunswick Department of Natural Resources.
